Munro Beanie Entrepreneur Donates PS2K To Scottish Mountain Rescue
Since the start of the business, a Perthshire entrepreneur who created the Munro Beanie, has donated over PS2,000 to Scottish Mountain Rescue. Each beanie sold generates a PS1 charity donation.
The company was founded by Dunkeld sports events and fundraiser Jo Dytch in the year 2020. It is inspired by an old Scottish tradition where walkers would stitch a red cross on their woolly hats as a way to keep track of how many summits they had reached.
Munro Beanies for men and women are produced in Scotland by a small family-run mill. They are made of soft lambswool. The 282 cross-shaped pieces are for walkers who want to complete the Scottish mountains.
Jo, a keen hillwalker herself pledged to donate PS1 for every beanie sold towards Scottish Mountain Rescue in order to continue their invaluable work in keeping people safe on the mountains.
The Munro beanie was included in a gift guide.
Jo explained: “The company is the result of my love of hillwalking, exploring the Munros, and the story that I heard from the father of a friend a few year ago about the Scottish tradition where hillwalkers marked each summit with a red cross on their woollen cap. This story captivated me and I wanted to make it come to life.
“I am delighted to support Scottish Mountain Rescue’s work. They are a fantastic resource for anyone venturing into the Scottish mountains.
“Except for a small team of permanent members, all the volunteers at Scottish Mountain Rescue give their time freely to keep us safe on the hills. They are usually the first to arrive when things go wrong. Knowing that they will be there in an emergency is very reassuring.
“I’ve spoken to many people that have been helped by Scottish Mountain Rescue, and I’ve seen how excellent the care from the charity is.” I wanted to use the profits from the Munro Beanie to help the teams in Scotland.
Bill Gennie, Chair of Scottish Mountain Rescue said: “We’re delighted to partner up with Jo Dytch, her innovative Munro Beanies, and support Scottish Mountain Rescue by giving PS1 per Munro Beanie that is sold.
“Jo raised more than PS2000 for Scottish Mountain Rescue.” The Scottish Mountain Rescue member teams are composed of highly-trained volunteers who donate their time, energy and skills to help in emergencies.
They are always there to help anyone in need, whether it’s in the mountains or wild areas of Scotland.
Scottish Mountain Rescue teams depend on the public to fund three of five rescues. Munro Beanies, and all those who have supported us by buying one, are vital in keeping us going.
Munro Beanies come in many colours, and the company sells headbands that can be stitched with a summit when achieved.
