Review: Columbia Mazama Trail Waterproof Jacket

Review of the Columbia Mazama Trail Waterproof Jacket
I don’t like plain black jackets. If you’re heading to the hills or even trails, they won’t make it easy for rescuers. I also find a black jacket to be rather dull. The alternative jacket for women is mostly white with beige. This is silly, because it will get dirty quickly. The jacket for men is available in black or red. The women’s choices of beige and white are not as good as red.
The jacket is comfortable to wear, regardless of the colour. Stretch in the fabric allows for good movement. The fabric has a matte finish on the outside, and is soft to the touch. On the inside it is plasticky. Omni-Tech 3D has a hexagonal pattern as well. It can feel clammy if worn bare-skin, such as a tee shirt. The fabric also sticks to some fabrics, such as fleece. However, it is fine for synthetic baselayers. It feels like it’s stuck inside a fabric.
It’s a good fabric to keep out the rain. It doesn’t leak even in heavy rain.
Breathability: Fair The jacket is not the best that I have tested, but it works well for most situations. I wouldn’t recommend this jacket if you are prone to sweating or if you intend to run while wearing it.
The hod and the peak were a problem. The hood looks neat, but the peak is small and too short. It would be better if the jacket had a peak that was stiffer and sat away from your face. The rain dripped off the peak onto my glasses.
The Columbia Mazama Trail Waterproof Jacket has many standard features. The cuffs, hems, and collar can be adjusted. You may not notice the two hand pockets if you have your hip belt on. I’d prefer pockets to be higher on the jacket.
The front has a one-way zipper. I prefer a two-way zip.
The pit zips are great. The pit zips are one-way zippers that allow you to regulate your temperature on the go. You can unzip your jacket underarms if you’re warm but it is raining. This will let out some heat or steam.
If Columbia is considering updating details, it would be nice to see a chest pocket inside.
This is a great mid-weight jacket you can wear all year. It is a reasonable price, especially when you shop during sales.
