The GO Outdoors Store In Clydebank Has Been Redesigned
GO Outdoors in Clydebank near Glasgow has been renovated. I was invited to have a look and use a gift certificate.
Clydebank Outdoors – GO Outdoors
The store is in Clydebank Retail Park at Livingstone Street G81 2XA. It has a large parking lot that’s free. The store was a bright, fresh and vibrant space that immediately lifted my spirits on a dull day.
It took me a long time to explore the entire retail outlet. It is huge – almost 9500m2 in size. The layout is spacious and allows you to browse through men’s clothing, women’s clothing, children’s clothing and even outdoor clothing. While I was shopping, I took note of the different items I wanted to try later.
What can you buy?
Clothing ranges include well-known brands like Rab, Berghaus and Brasher as well as more budget-friendly companies such as Peter Storm and Craghoppers. I spotted OEX which is a brand I had never heard of before. It appears to offer a range of products for cheaper prices.
After I had finished with clothing, I went to the footwear and accessories section, where I saw a wall of socks for hiking and running. I then wandered over to the camping section. Tents of all sizes are displayed in the store. I was able to walk inside the tents or just look in.
The tents in GO Outdoors’ camping section are only the beginning. I found everything I could possibly need, including products I never thought about.
The sleeping bags display was my favorite because I could see and touch all the bags.
New fishing and equestrian sections have been added to the camping area. Although I’m not an equestrian or an angler myself, I do know how popular these activities are. Fishing Republic Lite, Naylors and other concessions are available.
There is also a wide range of products including walking rucksacks, running gear, clothing for “lifestyle”, some ski/snowboard gear, climbing gear, and watersports.
The revamped store also has a large section of cycling equipment and accessories. I was surprised to see that there were not as many cycling clothes for women as men. This is, in my opinion, a serious oversight.
When I decided to try some clothes on, I encountered a similar problem.
What did I buy at GO Outdoors Clydebank?
My wish list included a pair waterproof over-trousers. I checked both the male and the female collection and found that the male range had more Gore-Tex choices. I couldn’t find any Gore-Tex trousers for women. I was debating whether to purchase a pair of small-sized men’s Gore-Tex trousers or women’s trousers in a 2.5-layer Pertex Revolve fabric treated with fluorocarbon-free DWR.
The Rab Women’s Waterproof Downpour Eco Pants (PS90), however, were the most comfortable. As I have not yet tested them in the rain, I cannot comment on their performance.
Why do men seem to need Gore-Tex but women don’t? !
I also wanted to purchase a midlayer top. After trying out several different brands of baselayers and midlayers including Peter Storm and OEX I chose the Rab Nexus Pull On Fleece. The top cost PS58.50 with the GO Outdoors Discount – a PS5 membership card is required to get the discount.
The fit, color and technical features were what made me spend more money than cheaper brands. I also liked the idea that I could get a PS65 shirt for PS58.
The rest of the voucher was made up of bits and pieces such as running and walking shoes, a collapsible campervan bowl, and some small gifts. The options were so numerous that I was a little overwhelmed.
What I think about GO Outdoors
This shop has all the outdoor products you could possibly need, but the selection of brands is somewhat limited. There were a few more popular brands like Mountain Equipment and Osprey but there was a much smaller selection than at other outdoor retailers.
There were fewer high-performance technical products available, so i would not likely shop at GO Outdoors if i wanted to buy clothes or kit for winter hiking and mountaineering. This is not a GO Outdoors store, at least as far as I know. I’d say that it is a store for people who want to explore the outdoors, or are already outdoorsy, but are on a tight budget. They are most likely to be families who enjoy fair-weather walking, running, camping, etc.
There are more brands on a website with a larger range.
The range of products in bright colours and sizes for women, men and children was also appealing. The store is spacious and allows you to see the products displayed.
Camping section is impressive. It’s aimed at summertime families. The range of activities is impressive, even if some are limited, like climbing and cycling.
Christopher Pine, the store manager at GO Outdoors, revealed that he was proud of its newly refurbished shop. He said: “We’ve had a fantastic couple of years here at GO. More and more people have reaped the benefits of being outdoors in terms of their mental and physical well-being. This expansion is the result of this success.”
We’re excited to offer more outdoor clothing, equipment and footwear, while also supporting the local community and creating jobs in West Dunbartonshire.
Clydebank’s store website has the most recent store information including the opening hours.
