Whitby Gear Monocular Review
Whitby Gear launched two monoculars for outdoor enthusiasts to watch landscapes and wildlife on the go. The Whitby Gear Monoculars 8×21 and 4×42 are lightweight and compact. They can be adjusted easily while moving and let the user keep an eye free to stay aware of the surroundings.
Whitby Gear 8×21 monocular
Whitby Gear’s 8×21 monocular measures 90mm x 30mm, and weighs only 66g. The monocular comes with a black nylon carrying case, lanyard and an adjustable eyecup. It is the perfect size for light travel, wherever you are going, and it can easily be stowed away in a pocket to provide quick access.
Whitby 8×21 Monocular has a simple focus adjustment, and it offers a wide range. The retail price is PS24.95.
Whitby Gear 8×42 monocular
Whitby Gear’s 8×42 Monocular is a large monocular that offers a high-level of performance at a variety of magnification levels. The product is designed to provide good light gathering with an impressive depth of field, and cover a large area. This helps when following birds or other wildlife in flight.
The product dimensions are 160mm x 60mm, and the weight is 352g. Whitby Gear’s 8×42 Monocular includes an adjustable eyecup, lens cap, black nylon carrying case, and lanyard. The retail price is PS49.95.
Whitby Gear 8×42 monocular tested
We have a variety of sizes, from compact to large. Whitby Gear’s 8×42 Monocular is in the middle. The casing feels robust and durable. The grip surface is of high quality, so you will feel comfortable holding it in one hand. Both lens covers look and feel sturdy.
The focus can be adjusted easily with a single dial, and the magnification and quality of the vision are excellent. I was able to spot a bird-of-prey flying over our garden.
I’m not sure about this feature: “Easy adjustment while in motion, and allows the user to have one eye free”. When I look through the monocular with one eye, it is difficult for me to see the other eye. In fact, I often close my other eye.
This is a handy gadget to carry with you when you’re out walking or leave on your windowsill at home for spotting garden wildlife.
This is an attractive product of high quality that does not seem to be too expensive.
If you’re looking for something smaller and lighter, the Whitby Gear monocular 8×21 might be a good choice. However, the magnification is not as high.
